Health Insurance for Maternity coverage in India


Pregnancy coverage health insurance policy in India: Most of the Health Insurance Company in India do not cover pregnancy. Rashtriya Swasthya Bima Yojna (RSBY) Smart card covered maternity benefits.

The Rashtriya Swasthya Bima Yojana (National Health Insurance Programme, government run health insurance scheme for the Indian people), which provides free in-patient treatment in hospitals to Indian people, now covers about 3.5 crore families.

Government of India have implemented the Health Mission in urban areas also. This will result in both expansion and improvement of health services in such areas.

All expenses related to the delivery of the baby in the hospital are covered and hospital will be reimbursed by the insurer. Both normal and caesarean deliveries are covered under RSBY. Rashtriya Swasthya Bima Yojana provides cover for hospitalization expenses upto Rs. 30,000/- for a family of five on a floater basis. Transportation charges are also covered upto a maximum of Rs. 1,000/- with Rs. 100/- per visit.
